If you perused Mr. Jacobson’s qualifications (c.v.) on this site, you have seen that in addition to his Structural Engineering and Civil Engineering experience, he has been the Chairman of the Building Code Board of Appeals for the City of West Chicago, Illinois since 1990. You may wonder why, since David L. Jacobson & Associates, Ltd. is located in Schaumburg, Illinois. It is not a position he sought – he does not live there or work there, but because of his reputation and integrity, he has been asked to serve in this appointed capacity since 1990.
He is a member of the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois. He has served on the SRW (Segmental Retaining Wall) Standards Committee of the National Concrete Masonry Association.
He has provided services for many years to attorneys through the Technical Advisory Service for Attorneys (TASA), and more recently to attorneys through JurisPro. Mr. Jacobson has been qualified and accepted as an expert in several Court Jurisdictions.
Mr. Jacobson participates in continuing education programs to stay up-to-date on all aspects of the ever-changing engineering world. Some of the seminars he has attended are for seismic design, drainage structure construction issues, iron and steel design, concrete design and repair, precast/prestressed concrete, and numerous others since beginning his career. A minimum of 16 hours of continuing education units per year is required to maintain the professional license in most states with a Continuing Education requirement.
