Types of Projects
There are many types of structures, and since 1988 David L. Jacobson and his staff have worked on over 3,000 projects. Some of the projects required only Structural Engineering, some only Civil Engineering, and some required both. Types of projects designed through the years include banks, churches, multi-family residential complexes, multi-story storage buildings, mini-storage complexes, bridges, retaining walls, enclosures for swimming pools, domes for restaurant play areas, strip shopping malls, restaurants, industrial buildings, and various specialty structures.

Clients often have an idea of the type of building materials they think would work for their project. Mr. Jacobson has over 35 years of experience [since 1970] with various materials and how they react to loading and interact with each other. For example, a developer may have a design concept for a building and preset ideas of the materials of construction. The structural engineer must understand the interchangeability of various materials to suit the engineering and architectural needs, so he can design with the material that is best suited to the project and is cost effective. David L. Jacobson & Associates, Ltd. has acquired many years of experience designing with the distinctive characteristics of building materials such as steel (light gage and hot rolled), precast concrete, reinforced and unreinforced cast-in-place concrete and masonry, structural aluminum, wood, and various segmental block retaining wall systems.

When Civil Engineering is required for a project, we provide site development layout, drainage studies, stormwater management and flood control, and pavement and parking lot design.
