I wanted to thank you for your thorough report regarding [the property] which my fiancé and I have purchased and have moved into. I will be purchasing crack monitors soon, and I will periodically update you with and checks that are made. Also, I have a neighbor who has live next door for the past 14 years, and I learned some new information from him that I wanted to make you aware of. The front stoop that appears to have rotated and caused the larger horizontal crack in the north basement wall runs over the top of or very near to a water main under my front yard. Apparently this main had some issue at one point in time, and an entire section of the yard was dug up to repair the pipe. I’m thinking this could have caused or contributed to some of the extra settling that occurred with the front stoop. If you have any additional thoughts with this new information, I’d be happy to hear from you.
I hope you have a great holiday season, and I’ll stay in touch regarding the progress of the crack monitors.
Thanks again,
Dear Dave,
It was such a pleasure to meet you. We appreciate your promptness in coming out to inspect the property, as well as your direct honesty. Thank you so very much for you prompt attention in producing the report so very quickly. We look forward to working with you and thanks so very much!
Warm Regards,
Shortly after my neighbors completed a large-scale landscaping project in their yard my wife and I observed large pools of water in our yard and we experienced water rushing into our finished basement following any significant rainfall. After a comprehensive search of Professional Structural Engineers in the Chicagoland area we quickly decided to retain David L. Jacobson to investigate the cause(s) of these water run-off problems. During the 4 years of litigation which has resulted, Mr. Jacobson has always made himself available to quickly answer questions posed by us or our attorney in what we consider to be an extremely professional and illuminating manner. We are particularly impressed by the way Mr. Jacobson is able to make even very difficult engineering concepts easy for us to understand in the context of the lawsuit we have pending against our neighbors. We think our son (who, by the way, is an undergraduate engineering student) accurately encapsulated Mr. Jacobson’s abilities when he used the baseball analogy: "Mr. Jacobson doesn’t just hit home runs – he hits grand slams!"
